In recent decades, numerous famous organists have wanted to commit to Johannus organs because they were impressed by the sound and performance of the instruments. One of the most famous organists to commit to Johannus was Feike Asma, after whom the competition of the same name is named. Feike Asma happened to walk into a church where Johannus was installing an organ, and was so impressed that Johannus organs never left him. He was closely involved with Johannus until his death in 1984. The concert hall in Johannus' neo-classical building is named, the "Feike Asma-concertzaal" and the traditional Feike Asma Competition takes place here every year. Besides Feike Asma, Klaas Jan Mulder, André van Vliet, Joseph Nolan, Pierre Pincemaille and Rolf Henry Kunz, among others, are inseparable from Johannus.
