Eastman T486RD - Thinline Guitar

Eastman

The T486 is a beautiful thinline guitar from Eastman. Eastman is an American company that was founded in the 1990s by the Chinese Qian Ni. Qian Ni emigrated to Boston to study music, but once he arrived in America he was not impressed by the quality of American stringed instruments. As a result, he started his own company, Eastman, producing violins. Over the years, Eastman's range has expanded significantly and guitar building techniques and quality standards have improved greatly. Eastman therefore guarantees quality. As a result, they are one of the most popular in the field of acoustic guitars, and in terms of quality they are close to brands such as Martin and Taylor.

The Thinline

The T486 is a thinline guitar. Thinline guitars fall under the hollow-body categorization. Hollow-body guitars are electric guitars with large sound boxes, in which the vibration of the string resonates in the sound box and is then picked up by the pickups. This creates a beautiful and unique sound. This combines the full and warm sound of an acoustic guitar with the power and versatility of an electric guitar. Thinline guitars are basically an improvement on this. After the production of hollow-body guitars it soon became clear that the guitars were very large, which could sometimes be uncomfortable, and that the guitars suffered a lot from feedback. Thus, the thinline was invented. The thinline also has a sound box, but it is a lot thinner, so that the resonance is still good, but the guitar is also a lot more comfortable. Thinlines are mainly popular among jazz guitarists, however thinlines are becoming increasingly popular in other genres.

The T486

The T486 is one of the most popular thinline models on the market. The sound box is made of laminated maple wood. This means that the walls of the guitar consist of several thin layers of maple wood that are glued together. This is a very sustainable way of using wood that is becoming increasingly popular in guitar building. A laminated wood guitar is also more resistant to climate change than authentic tone woods. Laminated guitars are therefore the ideal choice for someone who lives in very dry or very humid climates, the guitar will not crack or warp. This makes the guitar very easy to maintain. The neck of the guitar is made of solid maple and the fingerboard of ebony, this provides a nice playing experience and that the neck slides well through the hand. Finally, the appearance of the guitar is also an important point; the great red color provides an authentic look with a striking appearance. In short, a great guitar for a good price!

Squier Affinity Starcaster - Black

Squier

Squier is part of Fender. In 1965 they were bought by Fender, specifically to sell their popular Stratocasters and Telecasters for a lower price. This means they are the only brand that can copy Fender guitars completely, because they are part of the patent. The difference between Fender and Squier guitars is mostly in where they are produced. Fender guitars are either made in Mexico or the United States, whereas Squier guitars are made in Asia, usually Indonesia or China. They also tend to use cheaper materials, depending on the series. This means Squier guitars can be cheaper than Fender guitars. However, Squier remains one of the best producers when it comes to cheap guitars, because they produce relatively high-quality guitars for the price.

The Affinity Starcaster

The Starcaster broke the mold of semi-hollow guitar design with its offset body shape when it was introduced in the ‘70s, offering versatile sound and out-of-this-world styling for the most adventurous players. The Affinity Series Starcaster creates massive tone courtesy of its dual Squier humbucking pickups and is easy to play thanks to its slim, comfortable “C”-shaped neck profile. This Squier model also features a unique contoured headstock, an adjustable bridge with stop tailpiece for solid tuning stability, durable chrome-plated hardware and a smooth satin neck finish for a natural feel.

Godin Summit Classic A/E - Havana Brown

Godin

Godin is a Canadian company that make professional and innovative guitars. Their guitars are relatively sustainable, as well. Almost all their wood comes from North America, which means they don’t participate in deforestation in South America. Their guitars are made by hand by the best luthiers in Canada, which means they can guarantee high-quality guitars.

Sound

The Summit Classic A/E is a semi-hollow guitar and the shape is inspired by the popular Les Paul. Consequently, the guitar has two humbuckers. Humbuckers were designed in tandem with the Les Paul, and that combination is what put Gibson on the radar. A humbucker consists of double coils, which means the coils connect in a circle. Humbuckers produce a very different sound than single coils. Humbuckers sound warm and full, are better used with distortion, and produce less feedback, whilst single coils have a nicer clean sound and sound brighter. The two humbuckers can be altered with the three-way switch.

Materials

Because the Summit Classic A/E is a semi-hollow body guitar, it means the body isn’t completely solid. The body is made of mahogany and contains hollow compartments. Godin did this so the guitar wouldn’t be so heavy. Les Pauls are generally considered the heaviest guitar on the market, and this can be very uncomfortable. Subsequently, Godin decided to use a lightweight tonewood and to carve out hollow compartments in the body. Furthermore, the hollow compartments produce a full and deep sound. The neck is made of mahogany and the fretboard of Richlite. This is a great combination and results in a comfortable experience.

The RT-45 is a semi-hollow body guitar. This means that the body of the guitar isn’t made of solid wood but it also isn’t completely hollow.
