Yamaha APX600III - Thinline

Yamaha APX600III

Take the stage by storm

As an electric guitarist in the 1980s, if you wanted to play acoustic on stage there were few options for you that really worked. In 1987, Yamaha made the first acoustic guitar that could be taken from a guitar rack, plugged in and played at volume, problem free; no more howling feedback, misplaced mics or the dreaded extended sound check….

The APX series didn’t just focus on sound - every element was tweaked to be an easy switch for an electric player on-stage, from the stylish finishes to the cutaway body and the slim, electric-guitar style neck.

In any electro-acoustic, the combination of the guitar’s acoustic sound and its pickup is the heart of the sound. The latest APX600 features SRT Piezo Pickup – the same pickup as featured in the highly acclaimed A Series range and boasting incredible dynamic range, natural tone and the feedback rejection and mix-friendly sound that guitarists need and want. Yamaha’s legendary active preamp is still a big feature of APX, and being built by Yamaha’s audio-visual division, the sound quality is everything you’d expect from the world’s number one.

Styles have changed a little since 1987, but the essence of APX is the same as ever. Today’s APX guitars boast a more natural look, 5mm deeper body for better bass response and greater volume and, under the hood, a new non-scalloped bracing pattern for a responsive, dynamic tone.

The archetypal APX, the 600 series combines the outstanding comfort and perfect on-stage tone.

  • Thin Body and Cutaway For Excellent Playability
  • 634mm Scale Length for Enhanced Comfort
  • Narrower String Spacing Makes Stretching for Chords Easier
  • New Bracing Pattern For More Powerful Bass Response
  • Stage-focused Pickup Sound to Cut Through a Mix
  • Inlaid Soundhole Rosette

The Yamaha B1's Keyboard and mechanics

All keyboards used by Yamaha in their acoustic pianos are produced in-house. The B-series keyboards are made of Sitka spruce. In order to deliver optimal keyboards, the wood is dried carefully and in a natural way. This drying process sometimes takes up to 2 years. After this time, the keys are acclimatized in very hot kilns. The keys are then not coated, so that the benefit of this drying procedure is optimal. The keys can then no longer be influenced by conditions such as temperature and humidity and thus remain in absolute top condition for many years.

Yamaha uses a patented technology for drying and gluing maple wood in the B1. This type of wood is most commonly used for piano mechanisms and ensures a very accurate and durable action. The patented drying and gluing technology ensures that the mechanism can withstand continuous shocking, as well as changes in temperature and humidity. The mechanism consists of no fewer than 5500 parts, all of which are produced by Yamaha itself. One of the most unique parts is the aluminum rails that keep the deviation in the attachment point to a minimum. Yamaha was the first company to use Aluminium, which is insensitive to temperature changes.

Transacoustic

The third generation of Transacoustic pianos combines the worlds of acoustic and digital pianos like never before. Fundamentally an acoustic piano, it can of course be played entirely acoustically, allowing you to fully enjoy the pure, rich sounds of Yamaha’s high-quality instruments. In addition, the piano is equipped with a range of digital features, allowing it to operate in Silent and Hybrid modes.

Hybrid Mode

In Hybrid mode, a Transacoustic piano combines digital sounds with the acoustic elements of the instrument. It allows you both to acoustically mute the piano so that the hammers no longer strike the strings, and to use the piano acoustically to enhance the digital sounds. The digital system uses enhanced foundational sounds derived from the world-famous Yamaha CFX concert grand and the legendary Bösendorfer Imperial grand, each key meticulously recorded at very high quality. These recordings have been processed into the latest samples, which are brought to life by the Transacoustic system through specially designed transducers.

When the acoustic sound is dampened, this system is truly unique because the digital sound is still enhanced by acoustic elements such as the vibration of the soundboard and string resonances. This allows you to play the piano at a lower volume while retaining a lifelike tonal character. For example, you can also play other sounds like a Fender Rhodes with the enhancement of the acoustic elements, resulting in really exciting combinations. Another great option is to play purely acoustically, where the piano is not dampened and can be digitally augmented with, for example, a string orchestra.

Silent Mode

With a Yamaha Transacoustic, you can also play in Silent mode. The acoustic part is muted, and the digital sound can be played through headphones. This is ideal, for example, when one family member wants to watch TV while another wants to play the piano. When wearing headphones, you are fully immersed in the piano thanks to binaural technology. This technology ensures the experience is exactly like sitting at the piano and is therefore incomparable to the usual left-right headphone sound. You can play for hours and enjoy yourself at the piano without disturbing anyone — that’s possible with a Transacoustic!

Touch and Feel

The touch and feel of the Transacoustic is breathtaking in every mode. For the first time, all sensors are completely contactless, so the digital technology has no negative impact on the acoustic playing experience of the piano. Acoustically, it remains truly acoustic without compromise. In Silent mode, the feel of the acoustic action remains, except that the hammer no longer physically strikes the string. The technology is designed so that stopping the hammer happens very subtly, making it unnoticeable to the player. The digital sound is generated by digital sensors, which for the first time are placed under the keys, near the hammers, and at the pedals. This allows for even more precise detection of your playing, enabling greater expressiveness.

App

For the first time, the third generation Transacoustic can wirelessly connect to your smart device via Bluetooth MIDI. The comprehensive Smart Pianist app offers many options for selecting and editing sounds. In addition to Bluetooth MIDI, the piano also supports Bluetooth audio, allowing you to stream music wirelessly through the piano. Thanks to its special transducers, the Transacoustic piano can be used as a high-quality speaker for listening to music

THE QUALITY OF A YAMAHA B2

When you purchase a Yamaha B2 piano, you are purchasing a piano of Japanese quality. Although assembly is outsourced to factories in Indonesia, this does not compromise the quality in any way. Yamaha's expertise in acoustic pianos, combined with their many years of experience, makes them a very stable player in the piano world, praised for their pleasant, clear sounds. This is partly achieved through the high-quality components made from the best materials. For example, all keyboards are produced in-house from Sitka spruce wood. This wood is dried for six to 24 months and then further acclimatised in computer-controlled ovens.

This treatment ensures that the keys are hardly affected by changes in temperature and humidity. The piano mechanism is also resistant to these conditions thanks to specially developed technologies for drying and gluing maple. The use of aluminium parts also makes the mechanism very stable. In total, the action consists of 5,500 parts, each of which is developed by Yamaha itself. These actions are developed with incredible accuracy. The precision of the holes drilled in the caps is even achieved with an accuracy of 0.05 millimetres. It is therefore not surprising that a Yamaha B2 plays so smoothly!

An important feature of the B2 piano is that, like the B3, it has a solid spruce soundboard. This spruce wood comes from North America, where the temperatures and altitude are ideal for growing high-quality spruce wood. Once the wood has been grown, it is transported to the Yamaha factory in Kitami, Japan. This factory, which specialises in woodworking processes, then manufactures the high-quality soundboards.

More information about the B series

The Yamaha B2 is the middle model of a trio of pianos. With a height of 113 cm, this piano has a solid soundboard that ensures a warm, powerful sound. The taller the piano cabinet, the longer the strings and the larger the soundboard. This has a positive effect on the sound, but it does need to be tailored to the room in which the piano will be placed. In smaller living rooms, a B2 model is the perfect piano if budget is also an important factor. If you are looking for a piano that is just a little more affordable, then you will end up with the Benjamin of the series: the Yamaha B1. With a height of 109 cm and based entirely on all Yamaha principles, it is also an excellent piano. The Yamaha B3 is the most complete model in the series, with a height of 121 centimetres. This height is average for a piano and perfect for placement in medium to larger living rooms. Every Yamaha B piano has its own charms, but one thing is certain: whichever model you choose, you will be amazed by the quality and performance of these pianos. They will guarantee many years of playing pleasure.

The Yamaha SC3 silent system

The Yamaha SC3 Silent system is the latest generation of electronics that Yamaha uses in its acoustic pianos. Like its predecessor, the system features two world-renowned concert grand pianos, the Yamaha CFX and the Bosendorfer Imperial. Yamaha's flagship model, the CFX, stands out thanks to its wide range of tones, from a crisp treble to a rich bass. The Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand piano is world-renowned for its sonorous, rich “Viennese sound”. In addition to the acoustic piano sounds, the system features 10 other tones, including digital pianos, harpsichords, organs, string orchestra, choir and synth pad. The sensor system has undergone a major upgrade, making the registration of the key touch even more accurate.

A great addition is that the SC3 system now features Bluetooth. This allows you to play music wirelessly through the system via your smartphone or tablet. Another great feature is the wireless connection to the Smart Pianist App, which allows you to control the piano in innovative ways. Sound settings can be easily selected and edited, and features such as recording and a learning method are also available.

An important element of the B3 piano is that, like the slightly lower B2, it has a soundboard made of solid spruce. This spruce comes from North America where the temperatures and altitude are ideal for growing high quality spruce. Once the wood has been grown, it is transported to the Yamaha factory in Kitami, Japan. This factory, specialized in woodworking processes, then manufactures the high-quality soundboards.

More information about the B Series

The Yamaha B3 is the highest model of a trio of pianos. With a height of 121 cm, this piano has a relatively high body that is extremely suitable for placement in living rooms. The higher the body of a piano, the longer the strings become and the larger the soundboard becomes. This has a positive effect on the sound, which can be characterized as rich and clear. Yamaha also has two lower models available in the B-Series with the B2 of 113 cm and the B1 of 109 cm. These variants are even more affordable in terms of price and have the high-quality Yamaha quality. Every Yamaha B piano has its charms, but one thing is certain: Whichever model you choose, you will be amazed at the quality and performance of these pianos. They will guarantee many years of playing pleasure.

Transacoustic

The third generation of Transacoustic pianos combines the worlds of acoustic and digital pianos more than ever before. A Transacoustic piano is essentially a regular piano that can, of course, be played completely acoustically. This allows you to fully enjoy the pure acoustic sounds of Yamaha's high-quality pianos. The piano is also equipped with numerous digital features, allowing it to be used in Silent mode and Hybrid mode.

Hybrid mode

In hybrid mode, a Transacoustic piano combines digital sounds with the acoustic elements of the piano. It is possible to mute the piano acoustically so that the hammers no longer strike the strings, as well as to use the piano acoustically to amplify the digital sounds. The digital system utilises the enhanced basic sounds from the world-renowned Yamaha CFX grand piano and the legendary Bosendorfer Imperial grand piano, which have been recorded note by note in very high quality.

These recordings have been processed into the latest samples, which are brought to life by the Transacoustic system via specially designed transducers. When the acoustic sound is muted, this system becomes unique, because the digital sound is still amplified by acoustic elements such as the vibration of the soundboard and the string resonances. This makes it possible to play the piano at a lower volume while maintaining a lifelike sound character. It is also possible, for example, to play other sounds such as a Fender Rhodes with amplification of the acoustic elements, leading to some very cool combinations. Another great option is to play purely acoustic piano, where the piano is not muted and can be digitally supplemented with, for example, a string orchestra.

Silent mode

A Yamaha Transacoustic can also be played in silent mode. The acoustic part is blocked and the digital sound can be played through headphones. This is ideal if, for example, one family member wants to watch television and another wants to play the piano. With the headphones on, you are completely immersed in the piano thanks to binaural technology. This technology ensures that the experience is exactly the same as if you were sitting behind the piano and cannot be compared to the normal left-right reproduction of headphones. Play for hours and have fun behind the piano without disturbing anyone with a Transacoustic!

Playing feel

The playing feel of the Transacoustic is breathtaking in every mode. For the first time, all sensors are completely contactless, meaning that the digital technology has no negative impact whatsoever on the acoustic playing feel of the piano. Acoustic is therefore truly acoustic, without compromise. In silent mode, the feel of an acoustic mechanism remains, except that the hammer no longer physically touches the string. The technology is such that the hammer is stopped very subtly, so that you, as the player, do not notice this. The digital sound is generated by digital sensors, which are placed under the keys, near the hammers and near the pedals for the first time. This makes the registration of your playing even more accurate, allowing for even more expressive playing.

App

The third generation Transacoustic can connect wirelessly to your smart device via Bluetooth MIDI connectivity for the first time. The comprehensive Smart Pianist app offers countless possibilities for selecting or editing different sounds. Various built-in functions such as songs, a learning method and even a rhythm section are available. In addition to Bluetooth MIDI, the piano also features Bluetooth audio, allowing you to play music wirelessly through the piano. Thanks to special transducers, the Transacoustic piano can be used as a high-quality speaker for listening to music.

The history of Yamaha

The Yamaha brand name is well known in the world of musical instruments, but also extends far beyond it. Motorcycles, skis and audio equipment, among other things, are produced today. However, the company's origins lie entirely in music, and the three tuning forks that make up the logo are a nice detail of this. The Japanese company Yamaha was founded in 1887 by Mr. Tarakuse Yamaha. He started making Harmoniums and more than 13 years later, in 1900, he built the first pianos. The factory is located in Hamamutsu and has left its footprint all over the world. With more than 6 million instruments produced, you will find Yamaha pianos and grand pianos worldwide. The instruments are known for their solid construction, clear transparent sound, easy playability and high degree of tuning stability. Have you become curious about these beautiful instruments? We have a continuously changing collection of Yamaha pianos and you are very welcome!

Yamaha BYRS301III German Recorder

BYRS301III German

The Yamaha BYRS301III is a high-quality recorder that is perfect for both beginners and advanced players. With its excellent quality and thoughtful design, this recorder offers a great playing experience and versatility.

A striking feature of the BYRS301III is the German system. Unlike the common baroque system, the German system offers a different fingering and playing style. This system is popular in German-speaking countries and offers a smooth and comfortable playing experience. It makes it easier to play certain notes and provides a more direct response. The German system can be especially useful for beginners who are just starting to learn the recorder.

Another advantage of the Yamaha BYRS301III is the double bore. This means that the bore of the recorder is divided into two parallel tubes, resulting in a richer and fuller sound. The double bore improves the resonance and projection of the sound, allowing the player to produce a powerful and expressive tone. In addition, the double bore facilitates intonation and playability, making it easier to achieve correct pitch and articulation.

While the German system and double bore offer several advantages, it is important to note that some players prefer the traditional baroque system and single bore. This is a matter of personal preference and play style. It is advisable to try out different recorders before making a decision, so that you can determine which system and bore best suit your needs and taste.

All in all, the Yamaha BYRS301III German Recorder is an excellent choice for those looking for a high-quality instrument with a comfortable playing experience. With the German system and double bore, this recorder offers both beginners and advanced players the opportunity to produce a beautiful sound and further develop their musical skills.
