Recorders are usually made of wood. Wood is a porous material and has to be maintained. If wood gets dehydrated it can bend or break. As such, it's advisable to oil the recorder a few times a year. For this, you should purchase a specific recorder oil, as it's made with the recorder in mind. Make sure you don't put too much oil on the recorder, it only needs a thin layer of oil. By oiling it regularly the life span of the recorder is increased and the wood will be better protected.
