With the PX-S3100, Casio introduces a digital piano featuring 700 built-in sounds and an excellent price-to-performance ratio. Thanks to various technologies developed by Casio, it has been possible to create a digital piano that closely replicates the characteristics of an acoustic grand piano. The piano features a compact design, an innovative sound engine, a high-quality speaker system and an expressive key action.
Compact design
Normally, the circuit board inside a digital piano is mounted horizontally. With the PX-S3100, however, this is different. Thanks to Casio’s patented high-density mounting technology, the circuit board is installed vertically. In combination with other technical innovations, this makes the Casio PX-S3100 currently one of the slimmest digital pianos available. Together with its modern appearance, this allows the PX-S3100 to blend seamlessly into almost any living space.
Innovative sound system
The rich sound of an acoustic grand piano is produced by a complex mechanism combined with a large resonant soundboard containing more than 230 strings that resonate with the pianist’s playing style. The PX-S3100 aims to recreate this resonance with an innovative system in which each individual string is modelled and matched to all 88 keys. In addition, the generated key and damper noises contribute to a lively playing feel and authentic acoustic grand piano sound. Key noise is audible when the keys are gently pressed or released, while damper noise can be heard when the sustain pedal is released.
High-quality speaker system
Not only the internal components contribute to the rich sound; the high-quality speaker system also plays a crucial role. Within the available space, the PX-S3100 is equipped with the largest possible speaker system to deliver a powerful sound. Mica, a reinforcing material commonly used in high-end audio products, is incorporated into the speaker diaphragms to reproduce high frequencies with greater detail. In addition, the speaker structure allows for higher sound output while producing deeper low frequencies.
Expressive touch
In an acoustic grand piano, the 88 keys feature hammers of different sizes and weights, resulting in a unique touch for each key. To replicate this feeling, the PX-S3100 uses Digital Scaling Technology and a Hammer Response function. Digital Scaling Technology controls the sound level generated by each keystroke, while the Hammer Response function adjusts the sound timing based on how the keys are played.
Furthermore, the piano is fitted with keys featuring synthetic ivory and ebony key surfaces, helping to prevent finger slipping caused by perspiration. Key timing is digitally controlled by monitoring the motion of the key as it is released. When playing repeated notes, each note is clearly articulated, even if the key does not fully return to its original position, resulting in detailed and expressive touch control.
