The ES-8 reproduces the sound of several Kawai concert grands, such as the SK-EX, SK-5 and EX, which are renowned for their rich sound. By studying these concert grands in extreme detail, Kawai has succeeded in faithfully recreating their sound. Every key struck delivers a characteristic tone with an impressive dynamic range. This allows the pianist to play with varying intensity, from delicate pianissimo to powerful fortissimo.

 

In addition to acoustic piano sounds, the ES-8 also offers a variety of other tones, including Hammond and church organ sounds, as well as strings. In total, the ES-8 features 34 rich sounds. The Dual mode allows two sounds to be layered simultaneously, such as grand piano and strings, while the Split function enables the keyboard to be divided into left- and right-hand sections.

 

The specially developed Responsive Hammer III keyboard incorporates several grand piano touch characteristics that provide a realistic playing experience. Firstly, the keys feature an ivory-touch surface that helps reduce slipping caused by perspiration by absorbing moisture from the fingers. Secondly, the advanced triple-sensor technology, with graded weighting across the keyboard, ensures a natural feel. Thirdly, all 88 keys are fitted with individual weights to improve balance between fortissimo and controlled pianissimo playing. Finally, the Kawai ES-8 includes let-off simulation, providing precise control when playing pianissimo passages.
