Methode D'Orgue - Marcel Dupré, Alphonse Leduc
French organist and composer Marcel Dupré (1886-1971) is also remembered as an important pedagogue. His Méthode d'Orgue is for beginning students of the organ who have previously acquired some piano technique. The book consists of two parts: the first gives attention to technique through exercises of increasing difficulty. The second part aims to provide solutions to problems the organist may encounter, such as periodic differences in ornamentation. Dupré studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Louis Vierne and Charles-Marie Widor, where he won prizes for piano, organ and fugue, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. A renowned organ virtuoso, he was able to perform from memory the entire works for the instrument composed by J. S. Bach. Dupré's compositions and didactic works remain important for organists today, and his Méthode d'Orgue is no exception.
