Roland KF-20 – Oak
The Meaning of Kiyola
Kiyola can be roughly translated as elegance and beauty. This is reflected in the Roland KF-20: a digital piano that blends harmoniously into any interior while offering a rich, expressive playing experience. The KF-20 was developed in collaboration with the Japanese furniture maker Karimoku and is available in four colours. The wooden furniture base is handcrafted by skilled artisans, after which Roland equips the instrument with advanced digital piano technology. The result is an instrument where form and function come together perfectly.
Design, Finish, and Playing Experience
The piano is crafted according to Hikimono craftsmanship. Soft, rounded lines give it a calm and inviting appearance. The wood is carefully finished using the traditional Kikomono technique, resulting in smooth curves and a refined, polished surface. Invisible wood joints ensure a solid and durable construction, while the design remains timeless. The keyboard responds precisely to every touch, translating subtle differences in dynamics directly into sound. This makes the piano feel natural and expressive, regardless of playing style or skill level. Longer sessions remain comfortable thanks to its ergonomic layout and responsive action, making the KF-20 suitable for both beginners and advanced players.
Controls, Connectivity, and Improvements
The controls have been thoughtfully kept simple and intuitive, allowing the focus to remain entirely on playing. Through Bluetooth, the KF-20 can connect wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet, enabling integration with practice and control apps. The accompanying app provides access to additional sounds and allows precise adjustment of settings such as tone character and playing parameters, without distracting from the playing experience.
Compared to the FP-10, the KF-20 has been refined in several areas. While building on the familiar playing concept, it introduces a renewed sound engine with Piano Reality Modeling, which more accurately replicates the behaviour of an acoustic piano. As a result, touch, dynamics, and resonance are translated into sound more subtly and naturally. The audio system and connectivity have also been optimised, producing a more balanced and spacious sound that reaches its full potential in any room.
Comfort and Details
The matching Karimoku piano bench is ergonomically designed to complement the piano, ensuring comfortable playing even during longer sessions.
