Yamaha’s engineers selected a full-size CFIIIS concert grand piano with the highest possible sound quality and meticulously tuned it under optimal conditions. They then used Yamaha’s Pure CF sampling technique to capture every nuance of its sound and create the CLP/CVP tone. The result is a natural tonal response comparable to that of a top-class concert grand.

The high-resolution, 640 × 480 pixel colour TFT LCD display (TFT = Thin Film Transistor) offers exceptional clarity. The large, bright 7.5-inch (14.25?cm) screen displays musical notation, lyrics, all key settings and parameters with crystal-clear sharpness, even under challenging lighting conditions.

The keyboard of the CVP-509 feels remarkably similar to real ivory. The special Natural Wood keyboard also uses genuine wooden white keys. The softly textured, slightly porous key surface provides excellent grip and natural friction, making the instrument comfortable and easy to play. The authentic touch and response go far beyond those of conventional electronic keyboards, giving you the sensation of playing a real grand piano. This specially crafted keyboard even allows for techniques unique to acoustic grands, such as rapid note repetition and smooth legato playing without using the damper pedal, or fast repeated strikes with perfect articulation and no unnatural sound cutoff.

AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system that uses digital technology to reproduce sounds that closely resemble those of acoustic instruments. The waveform created when playing an acoustic piano key varies according to the playing strength, from pianissimo to fortissimo. AWM dynamic stereo sampling reproduces these subtle dynamic nuances by recording samples at different velocity levels. The greater the number of sampled layers, the higher the expressive quality and musical possibilities.

Active Field Control combines sound captured by built-in microphones with the internal Clavinova sound and outputs it through the rear speakers, automatically adjusting the output to create a richer sound that best matches the acoustic characteristics of the room. It also applies signal processing to produce an authentic damper effect. When the damper pedal is pressed, individually sampled overtones, harmonics and resonances are generated to reproduce a warm and spacious sound.

You can record your performance as audio data to a USB storage device. Connect a microphone or guitar to the instrument and enjoy recording vocals together with keyboard or guitar playing, or record your singing during song playback. The CVP-509 also supports playback of MP3 audio files, a widely used format on computers and portable MP3 players.

With the automatic accompaniment feature, you can create full accompaniments simply by playing chords with your left hand. In this way, you can reproduce the sound of an entire band or orchestra, even when playing on your own. The automatic accompaniment is built using rhythmic style patterns that cover a wide range of musical genres, including pop, jazz and many others. Thanks to these accompaniment styles, even beginners can deliver polished solo performances.

Insert a USB memory stick into the USB TO DEVICE connection on the instrument. This allows you to save and load registration settings and user songs created on the instrument, as well as read data from the connected device.
