New voices, live sets, effects and functions for Yamaha YC Series

With OS v2.0, the OS update that Yamaha has launched for the YC series, several new features are coming. This is a free update for the Yamaha YC61, YC73 and YC88.

Renewed Voices
This update includes new voices. The series now features the CFX2, among other things. The CFX grand piano is Yamaha's flagship model and has been renewed in this update. The GS1 FM voices have also been renewed.

New Live Sets
Where you could previously have 20 Live Set Pages, this has now been doubled to 40. Twenty-four Live Sets have also been updated, and each Live Set is immediately ready with the right match in octaves, effects and pedals.

New features
This update wouldn't be complete without a number of new features. It comes with natural sustain for notes you hold down, even if you turn that setting off. The sound only stops when you release the keys, giving you time to prepare new settings and continue with smooth sound transitions. You can also connect another keyboard via USB and play the YC sounds directly on it.

All in all, this update gives you a combination of fresh sounds, smarter features and inspiring new Live Sets. Together, these make the YC series much more efficient to play and prepare live sessions.

Download and installation
This 2.0 update can be downloaded from the Yamaha website. Here you will find more details about the update itself and instructions on how to install it.

Yamaha YC61 Stage Keyboard

Yamaha YC61

Designed for gigging keyboardists, the YC Series features a newly designed Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) Organ engine with physical drawbars, extensive real-time control and authentic Acoustic/Electric Piano and FM synth sound. With three models to choose from, there’s a YC stage keyboard for every stage and every player.

SOUND

When it comes to versatility, YC is a virtuoso. Featuring premium keyboard sound with more possibilities than ever. Choose from authentic Yamaha grand/upright pianos, electric pianos and keyboards to a tonewheel organ with rotary speaker, synths, acoustic sounds and more. Our proprietary VCM recreates the circuits of vintage analog EQs, compressors and phasers right down to the transistors and resistors to capture the subtleties other digital simulations can’t. It’s like having an incredible sounding keyboard with everything, to go.

TOUCH

At Yamaha, we put everything we’ve learned over the last 100 years into everything you touch. Whether you prefer the natural feel of a graded acoustic piano, the balanced touch of an electric piano or a waterfall keyboard with authentic organ action, there’s a YC that’s right for you. It’s no wonder more players reach for Yamaha keyboards than any other.

DESIGN

YC Keyboards aren’t just designed to be played. They’re made to be bumped, jostled, scratched, crammed in a van, stuffed in an overhead bin and adored by players and fans, gig after gig. In short, they’re built to last, like the company that stands behind them.

Yamaha YC88 Stage Keyboard

The YC88 is part of Yamaha’s YC series. Yamaha is a renowned Japanese brand, primarily known for digitising acoustic keyboard instruments. The company was also one of the first to develop and bring a digital keyboard instrument to market. This innovative and forward-thinking approach is still very much present within Yamaha today, making it one of the most popular brands in the keyboard market. The YC series clearly reflects this philosophy, with Yamaha aiming to create the ultimate stage keyboard.

Operation

The YC88 is the larger model alongside the YC61 and YC73. It features 88 weighted wooden keys. In addition, the keys are graded, meaning the higher notes feel lighter than the lower ones, just like on an acoustic instrument. This makes the YC88 particularly suitable for players accustomed to acoustic models.

However, the YC88 also offers all the advantages of a digital keyboard. Ease and speed of operation are especially important for a stage keyboard, allowing quick adjustments between songs. The instrument is equipped with nine drawbars, including transparent stops with adjustable colours, making it easier to distinguish between simulated configurations.

Furthermore, the YC88 includes a tonewheel organ, allowing it to be used as an organ as well. While the instrument offers extensive menus with a wide range of functions and sounds, Yamaha has addressed potential complexity with an intuitive interface that ensures fast and efficient operation.

The keyboard also features a rotary speaker system, delivering a highly realistic musical experience. The speed of the rotary effect is adjustable, offering additional flexibility. Transportability has also been carefully considered: the YC88 is relatively lightweight and compact at just 18.6 kg. Moreover, it is built to be robust, designed to withstand the demands of stage use and transport without easily damaging or scratching.

Features

Sound is, of course, essential. The tonewheel organ provides a rich and authentic organ sound. In addition, the keyboard includes a CFX grand piano sample for realistic acoustic piano tones. Electric piano sounds are also available, adding further versatility.

The YC88 is equipped with both a USB port and a MIDI connection, allowing you to connect it to a laptop, PC or smartphone. This makes it easy to record your sounds or transfer audio and data. In short, a highly versatile stage keyboard.
