Roland TR-1000 Gets Major Version 1.50 Update

From Rhythms to Basslines and Melodies

The Roland TR-1000 combines the iconic sounds of the TR-808 and TR-909 with modern digital synthesis, sampling, and powerful sequencing capabilities. With Version 1.50, Roland expands the instrument's creative possibilities, with a particular focus on basslines and melodies.

The new Note parameter builds on the familiar workflow for tuned 808 bass sounds. It also works with other sound sources that feature a coarse tune parameter, including samples and PM and FM sounds. This means you can program not only rhythms but also basslines and melodies within a single sequence.

With 34 scales to choose from, it's easy to keep different parts in tune. This makes it easier to turn a simple rhythm pattern into a more complete musical arrangement.

Play Melodies with the New Play Mode

The new Play Mode lets you play melodies and basslines directly from the TR-1000's front panel. The step buttons become a playable keyboard, so you can select a track and scale and play notes straight from the instrument, without needing an external MIDI controller.

50 New FM Instruments and Four Master Effects

Version 1.50 also brings the full collection of FM instruments from the TR-8S to the TR-1000. The 50 new sounds include metallic percussion, bells, toms, and bass sounds, giving you even more options for adding texture and variety to your productions.

The update also adds four master effects: Roll, Roll 2, Reverse Pan Delay, and SBF-325. The new Keep FX setting allows effects to ring out when you switch between kits. This is particularly useful during live performances, helping you create smoother transitions between sounds.

Improved Routing for Studio and Live Performance

Output routing has also been improved. Tracks can now be sent exclusively to the mix outputs, leaving the individual outputs free for USB streaming to a DAW. Roland has also made several display improvements to make navigating the TR-1000 clearer and more efficient.
