Godin
Godin makes professional and high quality guitars. They are located in Canada, where all their guitars are made by hand. This way, it is possible to guarantee high quality guitars, because every guitar comes through the hand of multiple specialised luthiers. Furthermore, the guitars are quite sustainable; almost all the woods they use come from North-America. This means the wood wasn’t transported from far away and that Godin does not participate in the exploitation and deforestation which mostly takes place in South-America and Central-Africa. This also doesn’t affect the quality of the guitar, and Godin still only uses the best materials.
Hybrid Guitar
The Godin A6 Ultra Koa HG is a hybrid guitar, which means that the guitar can produce both authentic acoustic and electric sounds. This is the result of the fact that the guitar has a semi-hollow body, which means the body has multiple chambers which provides better resonance than a solid body would. Additionally, the guitar has both a humbucker, which is an electric pickup, and a piezo pickup, which is an acoustic pickup. This makes it possible to use both acoustic and electric sounds on the same guitar. The pickups can be used through the same system by connecting them to the same amp. However, the guitar also has a more innovative function: there are two inputs on the guitar, which means the humbucker can be connected to an electric amp and the piezo to an acoustic amp. This is beneficial because both amps are designed for the separate pickups, which means both will sound as best they can if played through the assigned amps. Nevertheless, both pickups can be used through the same amp, but one of the pickups will likely not live up to its full potential. The A6 Ultra also has a mixing system which makes it easy to alter your sound.
Materials
The back and sides of the semi-hollow body are made of maple. Maple has a beautiful clear sound and an amazing projection. The top of the body is made of koa. Koa is an interesting choice, because it comes from Hawaii and was initially used to make ukuleles, which is where the sound qualities of koa were discovered. Koa has a unique and recognisable sound; a beautifully warm sound with a bright projection. Consequently, koa is very popular, but unfortunately it’s also relatively rare. This means koa is currently almost solely used for limited edition guitars, which includes the A6 Ultra Koa. The neck of the guitar has a mahogany neck and a Richlite fretboard. Richlite is a synthetic material which is rising in popularity. There are only a few tonewoods left that are suitable for fretboards, of which the two most popular are getting rarer. Richlite is the answer to this issue. It is made with wood and paper fibres that are pressed together with resin. This makes a really rigid and strong material which has all the benefits of wood. It is strong, smooth, and feels great. Richlite also doesn’t require maintenance, because it’s a synthetic material. This means it can be used in every climate and is easy to maintain. The A6 Ultra Koa is an amazing and professional hybrid guitar!
