Features of the Kala MK-S

The Kala MK-S is made entirely from mahogany. The front, sides, back and neck are all made from this type of wood, which is often used in guitar construction. In addition to their beautiful appearance, these types of wood have a positive effect on the sound, resulting in a wonderful ukulele tone. Since February 2017, the fingerboard has been made from walnut. The Kala KA-S is also available, featuring identical wood types but in a more luxurious finish.

The Soprano Ukulele

Although the ukulele is often associated with Hawaii, it actually originated from Portugal. It evolved from the branguinha or the machete, a Portuguese instrument, and ended up on Hawaii because it was brought along by Portuguese invaders. King Kalakaua liked the instrument and implemented it in the local royal culture. As such, the ukulele became an enormously popular instrument in Hawaii.
