The ideal headphones for your organ
One of the most important aspects of an instrument is, of course, how it sounds and how each note can leave a unique tone behind. This also applies to an organ.
The many stops that most digital organs have at their disposal can produce an incredible variety of tonal colours. Consider, for example, the enormous differences in pitch an organ can offer: from a sixteen-foot ‘Subbass’ stop in the pedal to a ‘Mixture’ on the manuals. If you would like to have a pair of headphones for your organ, it is important that they can reproduce the organ sounds at a top level as well!
How a professional pair of headphones can complement your organ.
Most home organs are equipped with powerful speakers, ideal for realistic sound reproduction. However, sometimes you may want to study quietly without everyone being able to listen in. Or perhaps your neighbours are bothered by the heavy pedal tones produced by the subwoofer. The experience of speaker sound is also always dependent on the space in which the instrument stands.
To offer a solution, Joh.deHeer has a very wide range of fine headphones, capable of reproducing the emotion in your music in a very realistic way. A pair of headphones also provides an enclosed space around your ears, preventing sound distortion from the room!
We have listed several options for you, of course accompanied by our expert explanation. Before you continue reading – do check whether your organ has a headphone output. More than 99% of the digital organs in our country are equipped with such an audio connection, so it is very likely that yours has one too. For digital home organs, this is always a 6.3mm jack output. Can’t find it? Feel free to send an email or get in touch.

Budget organ headphones.
► The Roland RH-5 is an excellent pair of headphones with a very friendly price tag. These 3.5mm jack headphones have a professional appearance and are supplied as standard with a 6.3mm plug for connecting to an organ. However, they can also be connected to audio systems, computers and similar devices using the standard 3.5mm plug. A number of strong points of this solid budget favourite:
Good build quality and adjustability, just like the more expensive RH-200 and RH-300 models. These headphones are comfortable and have spacious over-ear cups with soft cushions that press firmly against your head and sit pleasantly. They will not easily break if you happen to drop them. At 190 grams, they are also pleasantly light and portable. In addition, only one cable is attached to the headphones (on the left ear cup), which is convenient and stays out of the way.
Fairly large 40mm drivers (speakers) with a wide frequency range. Inside the RH-5 you will find 40mm speakers that offer a pitch range of no less than 10Hz to 22,000Hz. This means that the headphones can reproduce sounds that are very low, but also the very highest tones – and everything in between. This frequency range is so wide that it even exceeds human hearing! Humans generally hear from around 20Hz up to 20,000Hz.
A good all-round impedance of 32Ω – or 32 Ohms. This means that these Roland headphones will sound best when connected to a device with an output of 32Ω as well. The headphone outputs of most digital organs are powerful in terms of Ohms, which will result in a rich sound. A small disadvantage is that the headphones may not sound equally strong or good with every smartphone, as smartphone jack outputs are often not very powerful.
Altogether, this forms a genuinely good price-to-quality deal. It is, of course, true that you will not find materials of the same quality in the RH-5 as in the more expensive models. This is because the best materials used in electronics such as speakers are also the most expensive. For example, gold is one of the best-conducting materials on earth, ideal for transmitting electricity and audio vibrations. But gold, copper and other materials are costly, so different dynamic techniques are used in this type of headphone compared to higher-end models.
► The Stagg SHP-5000H is a spaciously fitting pair of headphones with larger ear cups than the Roland RH-5. There are many similarities between the RH-5 and this Stagg model, but also a number of differences. We will explain these.
As mentioned – these Stagg headphones offer a roomy fit. The ear cushions are made of imitation leather and feel quite premium. The SHP-5000H is well adjustable and, like the Roland RH-5, is supplied with a 3m cable and a 6.3mm plug. The headphones do not feel cheap, which is positive. However, this also makes them somewhat heavier than the RH-5: at 289 grams they are 99g heavier. The Stagg has a glossy coating, which looks luxurious at first glance. The audio connection uses two cables, one to each ear cup.
These Stagg headphones also feature a dynamic system with 40mm drivers, which are very versatile. The frequency range of 20Hz – 20,000Hz is slightly smaller than that of the previously mentioned Roland, but still more than sufficient for human hearing. The sensitivity is somewhat higher at maximum output, namely 105 decibels. This means these headphones can play at very loud levels.
The impedance of these headphones is lower than that of the Roland, namely 18Ω / 18 Ohms. This has both advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include that these headphones are more suitable for devices with relatively weak jack outputs – think smartphones, tablets and laptops. In many cases, they will perform better with this type of electronics compared to headphones with, for example, twice the impedance. A disadvantage is that the SHP-5000H may be less suitable for ‘heavier’ devices, such as some digital organs and studio mixing equipment.
We have tried to create a comparison between the Roland RH-5 and the Stagg SHP-5000H. In short: if you are looking for lightweight headphones that will perform best with all kinds of organ sounds, you will likely end up with the Roland. However, if you want headphones that you can also easily use with your smartphone or tablet, that look slightly different, and have a roomier fit? The SHP-5000H is at your service.
Professional all-round performers.
► A high-quality pair of headphones can be found in the Roland RH-200 / Roland RH-200S. Although these are two different models in our range, internally they are identical. A nice bonus is that you can choose between two colour styles: a modern matte dark grey version or a striking black-and-silver combination. Our list of highlights:
Both headphones are extremely solidly built and have a single cable connection at the left ear cup. The RH-200 is equipped with a coiled 3.4m cable, the RH-200S with a straight cable of the same length. The plugs used for the audio connection are gold-plated for high-quality stereo monitoring. Both ear cups on these models can also rotate 180°, allowing you to listen with one ear if desired.
The Roland RH-200(S) headphones feature high-quality 40mm speakers in the ear cups. These drivers are professionally equipped with more expensive so-called CCAW wiring – aluminium wrapped with highly conductive copper. This means that sound vibrations from your audio source will be reproduced extremely accurately through the speakers.
These top-tier headphones have a high impedance of 65Ω. This means they will perform exceptionally well when used with most digital organs and powerful studio equipment. So if you intend to record beautiful classical arias using your organ and related equipment, these headphones give you the confidence to process the music as accurately as possible. Something to note: these headphones are not suitable for use with ‘weaker’ devices such as mobile phones, as the built-in amplifiers in such devices cannot handle a driver impedance of 65 Ohms.
These headphones will prove their value many times over. With their high sensitivity of up to 100dB, range of 20,000Hz and superior isolation, they will make your music sound better than you ever expected. Both models are supplied as standard with a 6.3mm plug for connecting to your professional instruments and equipment. Feel free to visit us to try them out!
► The very best Roland has to offer in headphones: the Roland RH-300. A beautiful piece of high-level engineering with special specifications and speakers among the most professional in this price range. The luxurious colours and partly aluminium housing make this robust RH-300 both a professional audio tool and a stylish music accessory.
The Roland RH-300 has a single cable connection on the left ear cup, and is equipped with a higher-quality 3.4m cable than the previous models. This cable consists largely of pure copper (OFC – Oxygen Free Copper). This is extremely pure material from which oxygen irregularities have been removed. The large 45mm speakers have a maximum sensitivity of 101dB.
A pair of headphones like this can serve as a benchmark for many other models. The frequency range extends from an ultra-low 10Hz all the way up to 25,000Hz. This allows your music to sound crystal clear and very lively, with broad tonal reproduction. For organs this is especially important, given the vast diversity of both very low and very high tones. The impedance at which these headphones perform optimally (65Ω) is the same as that of the RH-200(S) models. Therefore, these too are not very suitable for use with devices such as smartphones, but they are perfect for digital organs and other high-end equipment.
You will sense the luxury of this Roland from the first touch. In addition to the high build quality, the manufacturer also includes a convenient carrying pouch with this model. In this way, the RH-300 is not only figuratively powerful for your music, but you can also literally carry it easily with you. Looking for Roland’s very best for your organ? Naturally, you will find the RH-300 in our range!
The absolute top...
► Joh.deHeer is particularly proud to be a dealer of the internationally renowned Adam Audio from Berlin. Since 2018, this brand has included the SP-5 (Studio Pro-5) in its range, developed in collaboration with the German company Ultrasone. This unique partnership has resulted in an exclusive pair of headphones that has even won several awards for its truly excellent sound and build quality.
The handmade Adam Audio SP-5 is equipped with a detachable cable connection on the left ear cup. Two cables are supplied: a 3m coiled cable with a gold-plated 6.3mm jack and a 1.2m straight cable with a gold-plated 3.5mm jack. The SP-5 can be folded, and a special luxurious case is also included for safe transport.
As you will notice – Adam Audio has entered into a special collaboration and has therefore secured the finest materials available. The 40mm speaker is coated with pure gold and has a superior impedance of 70 Ohms for connecting to high-quality digital devices such as modern home organs or studio equipment. The frequency range, expressed in Hertz, spans an astonishing 8Hz – 38,000Hz. This surpasses human hearing in a truly phenomenal way.
The left and right drivers can each (in stereo) reach powerful levels of up to 95 decibels. The strength of this equipment means that such quantities of megawatts are required to deliver power that the SP-5 is, unfortunately, highly unsuitable for non-professional devices such as smartphones and tablets. It would simply never reach its full potential on such devices. Therefore we can confidently confirm that this is a true Adam Audio ‘Studio Pro’ headphone: you can feel the professionalism in every sound wave.
