Yamaha takes over Steinberg's hardware
A Trusted Partnership
Back in 2008, the two brands joined forces to collaborate on various hardware products. Since then, Steinberg has consistently delivered reliable and high-quality hardware — such as the UR-C series and the IXO series of audio interfaces. Yamaha will now take over the development and sales of these products.
Working Together for the Highest Quality
The main goal of this new division of responsibilities is to allow both companies to focus on their respective strengths. Yamaha will concentrate on the design, production, and global distribution of hardware, while Steinberg will focus on developing music and audio software. This approach enables both companies to make the most of their expertise and resources, while continuing to work closely together to create world-class tools — suitable for both beginners and advanced users.
What Does This Mean for Users?
For users, this means a more refined and seamlessly integrated product experience. Hardware and software will be developed in harmony to deliver even greater reliability, creative freedom, and ease of use. Other Steinberg interfaces will gradually follow, ensuring a smooth transition. Yamaha and Steinberg will also continue to provide product support and drivers jointly for the foreseeable future.
The First Changes
Following this reorganization, the IXO12, IXO22, UR22C, and UR44C — previously released under the Steinberg brand — are reintroduced under the Yamaha name. They now appear as the UR12MK3, UR22MK3, URX22C, and URX44C. Featuring Yamaha’s high-quality microphone preamps, high-resolution audio (up to 32-bit/192kHz), and intuitive operation, these interfaces deliver professional results for users at any level. Steinberg is also introducing MixKey, a new software product designed for online creators. It will be presented to the public for the first time at TwitchCon, taking place from October 17 to 19 at the San Diego Convention Center in the United States.
