The story of Pleyel

The story of Pleyel began in 1807 and over two centuries later, the name is inextricably linked to countless celebrities who have forged Pleyel into tradition. The legendary name comes from Ignaz Pleyel, born on 18 June 1757 in Ruppersthal, Austria, and noticed at a young age for his musical skills. Later, when he became a French citizen, his name would change to Ignance.

At the age of 50, Ignance Pleyel started his own workshop but, unfortunately, sales of the instruments faltered. Musically, Ignance fared better than business-wise until in 1824 his son Camille joined his father in the adventure of Pleyel pianos. With thorough reorganisation and innovative work, he made the company grow rapidly.

Chopin, the ambassador of prestige. The legendary composer inextricably linked himself with the Pleyel brand in 1832. The touch of the Pleyel pianos was in perfect harmony with Chopin's playing, sometimes light and refined and sometimes with measured violence. Chopin's effort was the march to worldwide success, and by 1855 the brand was producing 1,400 pianos a year.

After the death of Camille Pleyel in 1855, Pleyel came into the possession of Auguste Wolff. He further developed the company with a large new factory and unprecedented technicality that today still form the basis of the piano how we know it today, such as the cast-iron frame, among others. In 1889, Pleyel sold its 100,000th piano, an exceptional title of honour and the first piano manufacturer to achieve it. Success propelled on until 1929, when Pleyel fell into severe crisis, leading to a bankruptcy petition in 1933. Despite this filing, production continued on a very small scale until 2013. In just a few very unique instruments for a wealthy clientele.

Pleyel today

The rebirth took place in 2017 when French gentlemen Gérard Garnier and his son Benjamin resurrected the phoenix from its ashes. The brand has always remained iconic and with a new Pleyel workshop in Nantes, the first prototypes came out in 2021, which were applauded by piano enthusiasts. The construction of the pianos combines today's technologies with the traditional know-how of piano makers.

The materials used are of outstanding quality and Pleyel uses only the best available. For the soundboards, for instance, the best spruce wood is used, sourced from the Val de Fiemme in Italy and known for its exceptional vibrating properties. The strings are all sourced from Germany, with the bass strings coming from Hellerbass and the medium strings from Röslau.

The first option is to order the Schimmel Twintone Silent System. This system was designed by Schimmel himself and is installed in the factory in Braunschweig. As a second option, you can choose for the Excellent AdSilent System,  which is built in by our own piano technicians. We offer the silent systems in combination with a piano with extra advantageous bundle discounts.

What is a Silent System? The Silent System allows you to play your acoustic piano with headphones while remaining completely silent to your environment. When the system is switched on, a built-in rail blocks the hammers from hitting the strings, so that no sound is produced. Each key has sensors that convert the touch into a digital sound that is reproduced through the headphones. This way you can play the piano for hours at a time when it is less appreciated by your environment.

The Yamaha B1's Keyboard and mechanics

All keyboards used by Yamaha in their acoustic pianos are produced in-house. The B-series keyboards are made of Sitka spruce. In order to deliver optimal keyboards, the wood is dried carefully and in a natural way. This drying process sometimes takes up to 2 years. After this time, the keys are acclimatized in very hot kilns. The keys are then not coated, so that the benefit of this drying procedure is optimal. The keys can then no longer be influenced by conditions such as temperature and humidity and thus remain in absolute top condition for many years.

Yamaha uses a patented technology for drying and gluing maple wood in the B1. This type of wood is most commonly used for piano mechanisms and ensures a very accurate and durable action. The patented drying and gluing technology ensures that the mechanism can withstand continuous shocking, as well as changes in temperature and humidity. The mechanism consists of no fewer than 5500 parts, all of which are produced by Yamaha itself. One of the most unique parts is the aluminum rails that keep the deviation in the attachment point to a minimum. Yamaha was the first company to use Aluminium, which is insensitive to temperature changes.

Other models in the B-Series

The "B-series pianos" from Yamaha consists of three models, in addition to this B1 model, the 113 centimeter high Yamaha B2 and the 121 centimeter high Yamaha B3 are also available. As the series progresses, the pianos not only get higher, but also use more quality features such as a solid soundboard and extra support beams.

Silent Version

There may be times when you would like to play the acoustic piano but find yourself unable to play at specific times because of the sound. Then the Yamaha B1 Silent Piano is an option. A Silent System then allows you to play a real acoustic piano, without noise pollution. The Silent System ensures that the sounds are reproduced through your headphones.

THE QUALITY OF A YAMAHA B2

With a Yamaha B2 piano, you are purchasing a Japanese quality piano. Although the assembly is outsourced to the factories in Indonesia, this certainly does not affect the quality. The know-how about acoustic pianos combined with their many years of experience makes Yamaha a very stable player in the piano world that is praised for its pleasantly clear sounds. This is partly achieved by the high-quality components made from the best materials. For example, all keyboards are internally produced from sitka sprucewood. This wood is dried for six to 24 months and then further acclimatized in computer-controlled kilns. This treatment ensures that the keys are hardly affected by changes in temperature and humidity. The piano action also withstands these conditions due to again specifically developed technologies related to the drying and gluing of maple. The use of aluminum parts also makes the mechanism very stable. In total, the mechanism consists of 5500 parts, each of which is developed by Yamaha itself. These mechanisms are developed with incredible accuracy. The precision of holes drilled in the protective casing is even done with an accuracy of 0.05 millimeters. It is therefore not surprising that a Yamaha B2 plays so smoothly!

An important element of the B2 piano is that, like the B3, it has a soundboard made of solid spruce. This spruce comes from North America where the temperatures and altitude are ideal for growing high quality spruce. Once the wood has been grown, it is transported to the Yamaha factory in Kitami, Japan. This factory, specialized in woodworking processes, then manufactures the high-quality soundboards.

More information about the B Series

The Yamaha B2 is the middle model of three pianos. With a height of 113 cm, this piano has a solid sound box that ensures a warm, powerful sound. The higher the body of a piano, the longer the strings become and the larger the soundboard becomes. This has a positive effect on the sound, but must be tuned to the room in which the piano will be placed. In smaller living rooms, a B2 model is the perfect piano if the budget also plays an important role. If you are looking for a piano that is just a fraction more affordable, then you will come across the Benjamin of the series; the Yamaha B1. With a height of 109 centimeters and completely based on all Yamaha principles, it is also an excellent piano. The Yamaha B3 is the most full-fledged model in the series with a height of 121 centimeters. This height is the average for a piano and perfect for placement in medium to larger living rooms. Every Yamaha B piano has its charms, but one thing is certain: Whichever model you choose, you will be amazed at the quality and performance of these pianos. They will guarantee many years of playing pleasure.

Silent System version

This piano does not have a silent system, but is available in a version with a silent system. This system makes it possible to play silently for your environment by means of headphones.

Hofmann Master 22 Panflute G1-G4

The Hoffman Master 22 is a fine pan flute from the German brand Hoffman. Hofmann produces their panflutes conscientiously and by hand. They only use the best types of wood for this, and select the best on the market. They focus on making sure their pan flutes have a great sound and are very comfortable to play. The pipes of this pan flute are made of bamboo, which looks beautiful and has a beautiful authentic sound.

Hofmann Master, for those who are looking for the best

For those who are really looking for the best of the best panpipes, you will find the Master models. The bamboo used for the pipes of this flute has been selected even more carefully and then undergoes a special and unique treatment method. The inside of the pipes are smoothed and hardened through a special process. This results in an extraordinary response and a flute that is most comfortable to play with tremendous dynamic range. This panflute has 22 pipes with a range from G1 to G4. This is a wide range. A G major tuning is therefore popular, making the pan flute very versatile.

An alternative to the Master pan flute is the Master Exclusive pan flute, where in addition to the above technology, each pipe is treated separately.

Tuning with beeswax

Natural materials are often used in musical instruments, and beeswax is no exception. Beeswax is a versatile material that can be used to tune a panflute, an instrument made up of multiple tubes of varying lengths and diameters. Tuning a panflute requires precision and attention to detail. Each tube must be adjusted to achieve the correct pitch.

This is done by scraping small amounts of material from the bottom of the tube until the desired pitch is reached. Beeswax can be used to make these adjustments. It has a soft texture and can be easily applied to the bottom of the tube with a tool such as a spatula. When the beeswax is applied, can a small piece be removed to lower the pitch or more can be added to raise the pitch.

An additional advantage of using beeswax is that it is a natural material and does not contain any harmful chemicals that can damage the pan flute. It can also help to protect the tubes from moisture and other elements that can affect the sound quality. All in all, beeswax is a useful material for tuning a panflute. Its soft texture and natural composition make it a safe and effective choice for making adjustments to panflute pipes.

Casio AP-S450BK Digital Piano - Black

Casio

The Casio AP-S450 is a great new digital piano from their Celviano series. Casio is not new to the world of digital pianos. Their pianos are very versatile and they make pianos for every purpose: from ultra-compact portable designs to large acoustic-like digital pianos. All of their pianos have a great action and a beautiful sound.

Celviano

The Celviano series from Casio was specially developed to produce digital pianos that are as close to acoustic pianos as possible. They have thus focussed predominantly on the essence of the piano: the action and the sound. To achieve this, they have used a great combination of physical acoustic mechanisms and digital technology. Furthermore, they have implemented Casio’s unique sound source technology to make sure the piano will sound as close to an acoustic piano as possible. Additionally, you’ll feel like you’re playing an acoustic piano due to the physical acoustic mechanisms.

The AP-S450

The AP-S450 is basically the same as the AP-550, except for the fact that the AP-S450 is smaller. This makes the piano ideal for the pianist with little space. The piano has 88 keys that are made of wood and resin. The keys are ultra-responsive and have a hammer mechanism. The piano is also very versatile when it comes to its sound, with 26 separate sounds, including 6 grand piano sounds. Casio used the Multi-Dimensional Morphing AiR with the AP-S450, which produces a rich resonance and a seamless transition between tones. This, combined with the advanced string resonance system, makes sure the piano will sound full, airy, and authentic. This is also partially due to the fact that Casio used four different speakers that have been expertly placed over the piano. Additionally, the piano has three pedals: the damper, the soft, and the sostenuto.

The advantages of a digital piano

But if you want the sound and experience of an acoustic piano, why don’t you just buy an acoustic piano? There are several reasons as to why digital pianos are preferred that can be explained with the AP-S450. Firstly, acoustic pianos are significantly more expensive, not only due to the purchase of the piano itself but also due to its high maintenance costs. A digital piano also doesn’t have to be tuned and they’re less sensitive to humidity. Another important reason why people buy a digital piano is because they can be used with headphones. Acoustic pianos produce sound by a hammer that hits a string, which means the sound is quite loud. This is often not very appreciated by neighbours and roommates, while a volume control or headphones often is appreciated. The piano also has a Volume Sync Equalizer, which makes sure that even on a low volume the sound will be beautifully balanced. Additionally, the AP-S450 has a recording function and a USB memory. The sound can also be tweaked with different effects and the system has a built-in metronome. Furthermore, you can connect your phone to the piano via the included MIDI adapter and you can expand the system with the Casio Music Space App.

It is the most versatile grand piano Roland has ever made.

Refined design

As we have come to expect from Roland, it has a sleek and luxurious appearance. Take the wooden interior or the red fabric behind the keyboard, for example. These details make the Roland an impressive instrument to behold. Its depth of 150.1 cm also makes it resemble a real grand piano in size.

New piano sounds

In addition to the successful appearance, Roland has also paid a lot of attention to the sounds. The sounds are generated by Roland's new ‘Piano Reality Modelling Premium Sound Engine.’ This new sound engine promises to modulate both European and American grand piano sounds to perfection. The new speaker system, with no fewer than 8 channels and a power output of 150 watts, will also reproduce these new sounds convincingly.

Modern technologies

Yamaha P-145BT - Portable Piano

The Yamaha P-145BT is a versatile digital piano designed for both beginner and more advanced pianists. This model combines Yamaha's reliable quality with contemporary technologies and a user-friendly design. Whether you practise at home, play in a classroom or are on the move, the P-145BT offers an excellent balance between portability, sound quality and functionality.

The features of the Yamaha P-145BT

Central to the Yamaha P-145BT is the Pure CF Sound Engine, which uses high-quality samples from the famous Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand piano. The result is a rich and expressive sound close to a real acoustic piano. With a 64-note polyphony, most classical and modern piano pieces can be performed effortlessly, without losing notes during complex playing.

The piano features 88 weighted keys, which offer a realistic playing experience thanks to the so-called Graded Hammer Compact (GHC) mechanism. This makes the keys in the low ranges feel heavier than those in the high ranges, just like a traditional grand piano. The matte finish of the keys also helps prevent fingers from slipping and adds to playing comfort, even during longer sessions.

Smart functions and connectivity

What really sets the Yamaha P-145BT apart from many other digital pianos in its class is its built-in Bluetooth connectivity. This allows users to connect wirelessly to the Yamaha Smart Pianist app on a smartphone or tablet. This app not only provides access to 303 classical sheet music pieces, but also makes it easy to adjust settings and use teaching materials.

Another useful feature is Rec'n'Share, which allows pianists to record their playing, both in audio and video, and share it directly via social media or use it for analysis and feedback. This makes the P-145BT ideal for home use as well as online lessons or content creation.

Accessories:

A matching stand is available to purchase separately for this piano. Special pedals can also be attached, and a bag is provided for easy transport.

Conclusion

The Yamaha P-145BT is a modern digital piano that excels in ease of use, sound quality, and smart connectivity. Thanks to its authentic playing feel, compact size and innovative features, this instrument is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a reliable piano with a contemporary feel.

Eastman FullerTone DC'62 - Desert Sand

The Fullertone Series

The Eastman FullerTone DC'62 is part of the Fullertone Series. The Fullertone Guitars are an amazing addition to Eastman’s assortment! These beautiful guitars are high quality, sound incredible, and are more affordable than Eastman’s previous models. This makes the guitars ideal for players who have always wanted an Eastman guitar but haven’t had the budget for one yet. However, Eastman listened to their customers and created the Fullertone series, making their guitars available to a larger demographic. The series produces two different models in different colours: the SC (Single-Cut) and the DC (Double-Cut). A SC guitar only has a cut out in the body underneath the neck whereas the DC also has a cut out above the neck. This means that if you want to reach the higher frets with the SC you can only do so from below whilst with the DC you can also wrap your thumb around from the top. Both of the guitars have different high-quality ToneRider pickups and the guitar comes with a gig bag.

The DC’62

The DC’62 is also made of high-quality materials. As such, the guitar has a roasted black limba body, which, besides being quite sustainable, provides a sturdy base and produces a beautiful resonance. Furthermore, the guitar has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. This is a popular combination of materials as it results in a sturdy neck and a comfortable playing surface. Moreover, the guitar has a beautiful aluminium pickguard providing the guitar with a luxurious appearance. The guitar is also incredibly versatile due to its HSS pickup configuration. The guitar has two ToneRider SQ1-WH Noiseless single-coil pickups and one ToneRider Soapbar humbucker. Consequently, you can produce growling overdriven sounds but also beautifully clean tones.

Eastman

Eastman was founded in 1992 by Qian Ni, a Chinese musician who had moved to America. He realised there were few professional instruments available at the time, which is why he decided to start his own company. Quality is still Eastman’s priority. Every instrument is made by hand and goes through an extensive process to ensure that the instruments will stand the test of time and can be used quite intensively.

Fender Player II Jazzmaster - Birch Green

The Player II Series

Fender developed the Player series specifically for beginning musicians and musicians with a relatively low budget. The Fender Player guitars and basses are made in Mexico and measure up to Fender’s American-made guitars quite well. The instruments are also very versatile and are even suited for recording and gigs. The Player guitars are thus more affordable versions of the popular Fender models. Consequently, they also feel and sound like a Fender guitar. However, the Player models are relatively standard, Fender did not add any unique modifications or special additions to the guitar. All models have Alnico pickups and are available in different colours. The Player II models contain sturdier bridges so they’re more stable than with previous models, the necks now have rolled edges so they’re more comfortable, and the guitars all have ClassicGear tuners for increased tuning stability. Furthermore, now that rosewood is back on the market some of the guitars have a rosewood fretboard.

The Player II Jazzmaster

The Player II Jazzmaster is an amazing guitar for a great price. This Jazzmaster contains all the improvements of the Player II series. Moreover, the guitar contains two Alnico V Single-Coil Jazzmaster pickups so the guitar can produce crystalline highs, musical mids, and tight lows. With the 3-way switch you can choose between using the bridge pickup, the neck pickup, or both at the same time. Additionally, the guitar is made of high-quality materials. The guitar has an alder body, which provides a lightweight base and provides great sustain. The guitar also has a maple neck and a rosewood fretboard. This is a great combination that provides a comfortable experience.

Fender

Fender was founded in 1946 by Clarence Leonidas ‘Leo’ Fender. Their first guitar, the Telecaster, became a huge success, and they started producing other similarly popular models, like the Stratocaster and the Precision Bass. Nowadays Fender has a huge assortment of different basses and guitars, with different sounds, colours, and prices, so that they have something for everyone. Consequently, they remain one of the most popular guitar brands today!

Markbass MB GV 4 Gloxy 3-Tone Sunburst CR MP Passive - Electric Bass

Markbass

The Italian Marco De Virgiliis started in 2001 the company Markbass, together with Parsek. Marco had a lifelong passion for speakers, amps, instruments, and music. Furthermore, he had decades of personal experience and years of professional experience working with speakers and amps. He used this to produce the best possible bass amps and Markbass quickly grew to be an international company represented by world-famous musicians. However, they’ve expanded to include other products, including basses, guitars, pedals, and other accessories. They’ve also made sure they’re able to guarantee the highest quality with these products. Nowadays, Markbass products are a staple in rehearsal spaces, studios, and concert halls.

The Gloxy Series

Many companies are having a hard time keeping their spot in the international market because customers want high-quality products for a low price. However, raw materials have become significantly more expensive and it’s becoming harder and harder to guarantee low prices. Consequently, Markbass created the Gloxy series. With this series, they have abandoned globalisation and instead have focussed on ‘Glocalisation’, with which they have focussed on the local market and the Italian style. As a result, they can create unique instruments based on the Italian market, but due to its unicity they are also very popular on a global level. Markbass didn’t want to decrease the quality of their products to save money, as they believe students will remain motivated if they have a reliable instrument. They spent a lot of time comparing different high-quality materials to find the most reliable materials for the best prices. They have therefore made sure that the Gloxy series is still relatively affordable whilst still guaranteeing the highest quality.

The MB GV 4 Gloxy 3-Tone Sunburst CR MP Passive

The MB GV 4 is an amazing choice within the Gloxy series. The body of the bass is made of basswood, which is a sustainable tonewood which will provide a lightweight base. As such, you can easily support the bass with your shoulder without it getting uncomfortable. Basswood provides a relatively neutral sound and good sustain. The bass has a maple neck and fretboard and the neck has a C-shape. The C-shape is considered by many to be the most comfortable shape and is also suitable for bassists with smaller hands. Maple is a great choice for necks and fretboards as it’s incredibly sturdy and provides a smooth surface. When considering the pickups, this is an interesting bass within the Gloxy series as it has two passive pickups. This means that the power and the sound will largely be decided by the amp, which will also result in better projection. This bass specifically has two passive Markbass JJ Style 70’s Position pickups. These pickups will result in a fat and round sound. A gig bag will be included with your purchase.
