Taylor Gold Label 814e SB

The Gold Label Series

2025 has been seized by Taylor; adding some new legends to the market with the introduction of the Gold Label Series. These guitars produce the beautiful ‘Old-Heritage’ sound, as Taylor refers to it. This is a powerful sound with a dynamic depth, amazing tuning stability, and great sustain, which is the result of a combination of the new Super Auditorium shape, the longer neck joint, the V-Class bracing, and the use of amazing tonewoods. The appearance and the shape of the guitars were inspired by flattop guitars from the 1930s and ‘40s, which are characterised by their open and vintage sound.

The Gold Label 814e

The Gold Label 814e is a great guitar. The body has a solid spruce top and solid Honduran rosewood back and sides. This combination produced a warm and balanced sound. The guitar has a mahogany neck and an ebony fretboard. Furthermore, the guitar has a Super Auditorium shape. This is a newer version of Taylor’s popular Grand Auditorium shape. The Super Auditorium has a slightly longer body and a wider bottom, which means the guitar looks very similar to the Grand Auditorium but has more space for resonance and thus produces a fuller and more powerful sound. This makes the guitar very versatile, but this shape is exceptionally ideal for fingerpicking. Furthermore, the guitar has LR Baggs Element VTC electronics so the amplified sound will sound authentic.

Taylor

Taylor is an American company that was founded in 1974 when two boys bought an old hippie guitar shop. The boys were very passionate about guitars and put a lot of energy into the shop. Eventually, the shop evolved into an international company. All Taylor guitars today are made in either El Cajon in California or Tecate in Mexico. Taylor is very proud of this, because guitars that are produced close to headquarters go through a more thorough quality control process and employee satisfaction is better regulated. Taylor prioritises tone and comfort. All guitars are perfected and with modern luthier techniques the guitars can be made with more precision and consistency.

Its heart is the Adirondack spruce top, known for exceptional headroom, clarity and shimmering overtones. Combined with Honduran rosewood, you get a beautifully balanced sound with deep lows, warm mids and bell-like trebles.

Inside, scalloped V-Class bracing takes sustain, projection and tonal accuracy to a new level. Notes blend more harmoniously, chords open up wider and melodic passages gain extra presence and authority. The Next Generation version introduces an impressive list of comfort-enhancing features:

  • Beveled armrest & beveled cutaway for outstanding ergonomics
  • Chamfered body edges with smooth, soft contours
  • Silent Satin finish that minimises handling noise
  • Action Control Neck (long-tenon joint) for greater resonance and effortless action adjustments

For amplified use, this model features Taylor’s brand-new Claria™ pickup system, developed with touring artists and live sound engineers. It delivers a natural, open and highly consistent plug-and-play acoustic tone without the need for extensive EQ work.

Aesthetically, this is a true showpiece: Element inlays in shell and mother-of-pearl, a Honduran rosewood pickguard, Gotoh 510 tuners in antique gold, and a full-gloss finish with Kona edgeburst give this guitar the luxurious look that matches its sound.
