The Puncheon Cask is a unique instrument by James Neligan. James Neligan, realized that whiskey makers treated their whiskey crates in the same way guitar builders treat their soundboxes. The type of wood used for whiskey crates can influence the taste of the whiskey, just as the wood type of a soundbox can influence the sound of a guitar. Consequently, they wanted to combine these two aspects, resulting in the Cask. The soundbox of the Cask is based on these whiskey crates. The rectangular shape causes the strings to resonate differently than with a rounder shape. Additionally, the instrument has two F-holes and a resonator, making the sound even more unique. The soundbox is made of spruce wood, providing excellent resonance and producing a warm sound. The neck is crafted from mahogany and the fingerboard from rosewood. The Cask features four strings and is relatively compact, measuring 86 centimeters in total length. Moreover, the Cask comes with a carrying bag. In summary, a very interesting instrument at an attractive price!
