Yamaha initiates recall of PA‑300C adapters due to safety concerns
What is the problem?
The adapter contains a resin that uses red phosphorus as a flame retardant. Due to air bubbles that formed during the manufacturing process, moisture can penetrate the material. When this reacts with the phosphorus, a short circuit may occur in the DC plug, leading to unusual heat generation.
Which products are affected?
Only the PA‑300C adapter with 11‑digit serial numbers and the “Efficiency Level V” label is included in the recall. Adapters with 12‑digit serial numbers are safe.
The adapter was not sold separately but supplied with or built into various Yamaha products produced between July 2010 and May 2012, including:
- Yamaha PSR arranger workstations (e.g. PSR‑S550, PSR‑S650, PSR‑S710, PSR‑S750, PSR‑S910, PSR‑S950, PSR‑A2000, PSR‑OR700)
- Digital pianos (e.g. P‑155, YDP‑162 series, YDP‑S51 series)
- MOTIF‑RACK XS
- DTX900 (drum trigger module)
- ICP1 Intelligent Control Panel
- Steinberg UR824 audio interface
- Clavinova CLP‑430 series
- Clavinova CVP‑601 series
Yamaha asks users to:
- Stop using the PA‑300C adapter immediately
- Request a free replacement adapter via the official Yamaha website
Yamaha’s response
Yamaha emphasises that safety is their highest priority and apologises for the inconvenience. The company promises full support and free replacement of all affected adapters.
