The Yamaha B1's Keyboard and mechanics

All keyboards used by Yamaha in their acoustic pianos are produced in-house. The B-series keyboards are made of Sitka spruce. In order to deliver optimal keyboards, the wood is dried carefully and in a natural way. This drying process sometimes takes up to 2 years. After this time, the keys are acclimatized in very hot kilns. The keys are then not coated, so that the benefit of this drying procedure is optimal. The keys can then no longer be influenced by conditions such as temperature and humidity and thus remain in absolute top condition for many years.

Yamaha uses a patented technology for drying and gluing maple wood in the B1. This type of wood is most commonly used for piano mechanisms and ensures a very accurate and durable action. The patented drying and gluing technology ensures that the mechanism can withstand continuous shocking, as well as changes in temperature and humidity. The mechanism consists of no fewer than 5500 parts, all of which are produced by Yamaha itself. One of the most unique parts is the aluminum rails that keep the deviation in the attachment point to a minimum. Yamaha was the first company to use Aluminium, which is insensitive to temperature changes.

The "B-series pianos" from Yamaha consists of three models, in addition to this B1 model, the 113 centimeter high Yamaha B2 and the 121 centimeter high Yamaha B3 are also available. Tuning with beeswax

Natural materials are often used in musical instruments, and beeswax is no exception. Beeswax is a versatile material that can be used to tune a panflute, an instrument made up of multiple tubes of varying lengths and diameters. Tuning a panflute requires precision and attention to detail. Each tube must be adjusted to achieve the correct pitch.

This is done by scraping small amounts of material from the bottom of the tube until the desired pitch is reached. Beeswax can be used to make these adjustments. It has a soft texture and can be easily applied to the bottom of the tube with a tool such as a spatula. When the beeswax is applied, can a small piece be removed to lower the pitch or more can be added to raise the pitch.

An additional advantage of using beeswax is that it is a natural material and does not contain any harmful chemicals that can damage the pan flute. It can also help to protect the tubes from moisture and other elements that can affect the sound quality. All in all, beeswax is a useful material for tuning a panflute. Its soft texture and natural composition make it a safe and effective choice for making adjustments to panflute pipes.

The story of Pleyel

The story of Pleyel began in 1807 and over two centuries later, the name is inextricably linked to countless celebrities who have forged Pleyel into tradition. The legendary name comes from Ignaz Pleyel, born on 18 June 1757 in Ruppersthal, Austria, and noticed at a young age for his musical skills. Later, when he became a French citizen, his name would change to Ignance.

At the age of 50, Ignance Pleyel started his own workshop but, unfortunately, sales of the instruments faltered. Musically, Ignance fared better than business-wise until in 1824 his son Camille joined his father in the adventure of Pleyel pianos. With thorough reorganisation and innovative work, he made the company grow rapidly.

Chopin, the ambassador of prestige. The legendary composer inextricably linked himself with the Pleyel brand in 1832. The touch of the Pleyel pianos was in perfect harmony with Chopin's playing, sometimes light and refined and sometimes with measured violence. Chopin's effort was the march to worldwide success, and by 1855 the brand was producing 1,400 pianos a year.

After the death of Camille Pleyel in 1855, Pleyel came into the possession of Auguste Wolff. He further developed the company with a large new factory and unprecedented technicality that today still form the basis of the piano how we know it today, such as the cast-iron frame, among others. In 1889, Pleyel sold its 100,000th piano, an exceptional title of honour and the first piano manufacturer to achieve it. Success propelled on until 1929, when Pleyel fell into severe crisis, leading to a bankruptcy petition in 1933. Despite this filing, production continued on a very small scale until 2013. In just a few very unique instruments for a wealthy clientele.

Pleyel today

The rebirth took place in 2017 when French gentlemen Gérard Garnier and his son Benjamin resurrected the phoenix from its ashes. The brand has always remained iconic and with a new Pleyel workshop in Nantes, the first prototypes came out in 2021, which were applauded by piano enthusiasts. The construction of the pianos combines today's technologies with the traditional know-how of piano makers.

The materials used are of outstanding quality and Pleyel uses only the best available.
